Dr. Waugh is the founder of The Institute for Advanced Damon Education, a teaching center for orthodontists. In it he teaches doctors from all over the world the Damon System technique, which incorporates the Damon System's lighter, more comfortable braces that result in shorter treatment times for most patients.

The Institute for Advanced Damon Education is located in Athens, Georgia just outside Atlanta (U.S.A.).

The Damon System of orthodontics is the fastest-growing system of braces in the world. By including the soft tissues of the face and mouth more in the diagnostic and treatment planning processes, treatment is often delivered without the extraction of teeth or the use of palatal expanders.

This system "goes against the grain" of much of what is taught in orthodontic residencies; a certain degree of "relearning" is necessary to maximize the benefits the Damon System offers orthodontists and their patients.

In 2004, Dr. Waugh founded The Institute for Advanced Damon Education, which was selected by Ormco Corporation, manufacturer of the Damon System, as its national educational facility for orthodontists and their staff to build their Damon treatment skills. Dr. Waugh is the Institute's Senior Faculty. Orthodontists from as far away as Europe and the Far East have attended the programs.
